Tøyen Trafo

“In 1915, a transformer station was built at Tøyen. Oslo Lysverker’s old transformer station is located on a ridge above the Tøyen area and is used today for various cultural purposes.
This powerful building is built in brick, with a copper-clad tower helmet. The composition is asymmetrical, with a juxtaposition of several volumes. The style expression is Nordic Neo-Baroque, combined with elements of Art Nouveau, in a medieval, castle-like expression. After the original function ceased, Tøyen cultural center (Tøyen kulturhus) was established here in 1975, with rooms for studios, exhibitions, and performances. Today, Oslo Theater Center (Oslo teatersenter) is located in the building, in addition to the studios found here.”
