“Kunstnerforbundet is an artist-run, non-commercial exhibition, and dissemination institution with an emphasis on changing exhibitions of contemporary art and crafts from all over the country.
Kunstnerforbundet was established in 1910 by younger profiled artists and is one of Scandinavia’s oldest artist-run galleries. The gallery is organized as an idealistic corporation. 150 contemporary artists are currently associated with the gallery as shareholders. Everyone can apply for an exhibition space, and Kunstnerforbundet has in recent years received over 600 applications annually. Over 30,000 visitors participate annually in Kunstnerforbundet’s dissemination program.
Since 2018, Kunstnerforbundet has run the pilot project Atelier Kunstnerforbundet with support from the Sparebankstiftelsen, Talent Norge, Billedkunstnernes Hjelpefond and Fritt Ord.
Kunstnerforbundet sees it as an important task to help establish an economic platform for the artists. For over a hundred years, the gallery has facilitated public procurement, decorations and dissemination sales to first-time buyers and collectors.”
